An open invitation to Bearwood bands, singers, musicians, sword swallowers...

Okay, so there's more music going on in Bearwood now than there was a few months back. Bearwood Jazz keeps on keeping on, BED has rocked out their first gig at St Mary's Church, Bearwood Chapel has some events coming up (see posting below), Boogie Dave is launching Bear Rhythms at Monalito Latin Bar & Grill this Thursday (16th) and Bearwood Promoters are planning to hold the first of their Bearwood Shuffles at the Lightwood Park Bandstand on July 31st. But there's room for a whole lot more. So this is a general shoutout to bands who live in and around Bearwood (there must be loads out there) to make themselves known. Whether you fancy playing live or just want us to post your music and vids leave a comment below with the details and we'll do the rest. Here's one to get you started, The Ritas (featuring local blogger Helen Highwater...I think she's local...) and their cover of The Smiths' Jeane.

I came across this by accident but it's pretty cool eh? More please!

  2. Cool! We'll keep you posted. Met with a dude from the Council the other night and they're happy for us to use it. We'll probably try to do a few free outdoor gigs there over the summer then maybe move indoors (perhaps The Bear or St Mary's) in the winter.

  3. I think we'll be ready to play live come October/November. There's only two of us, so I've got to record backing tracks!!! But it depends how long the sets are. We could do a 3-song set in a couple of weeks' time.

  4. October/ November sounds perfect. We'd quite like to have an 'open mic' slot at the Bearwood Shuffles too though, so if you ever fancied popping along and doing something on the day (pressure free as it were) that could be an option too. There are a few of us behind this idea and we're all pretty new to organising events so it's gonna be a bit 'suck and it see' at first!

  7. Cheers Gareth! We've emailed you now.

Hi Helen. The Bearwood Shuffle name covers our approach to the bills that we want to put on. Just like the i-Pod shuffle we want it to be pretty random and eclectic. So we might have some blues guitar one minute, folk the next and then a bit of hip hop after that. With the open mic slots too who knows what we'll get!?
